Every once and awhile I hear the pitter patter of little feet and I know that Zachary is about to jump into my bed. Other times I hear bigger pitter patters and I know it is Eli. But last night around 3am Eli jumped into my bed and woke me up telling me he was lonely and dug his knees into my back and fell asleep. So I scooted over.

At 4am Zachary woke up crying for Mommy. Mommy is dead asleep and completely non-responsive so I get up, walk to his room and try to convince him to go back to bed. He is worked up and wants to wake up and play and I want to collapse back to bed. I finally get him into my arms (he has been screaming for mommy at this point for a few minutes) and bring him into my room. He jumps out of my arms, and snuggles in next to mommy which forces Eli to scoot over and suddenly I am the man who is not getting back to bed.

In my bed is Maggie the 100+ pound Bernese Mountain Dog, My wife, my 3 year old boy and my 7 year old boy. 1 Queen bed does not fit all of that and my 220 pound frame. Instead I go to the computer, write some notes and then head to Eli’s room to sleep in his full sized bed.

I love being a dad.
