My son, who is now attending two schools during the day, for the first half he attends NIS, and the second half he is bused to Tutor Time, has told me every morning this week that he likes the old school (Tutor Time) better.
This concerns me and makes me sad. The entire reason Eli is going to NIS is to get better one on one help in an environment that is better suited to help with the PDD NOS diagnosis.
Now I am finding that I am not getting the type of communication I am used to back from the teacher, and in her last note informing my wife that she, with 18 kids, does not have the time to communicate effectively with us.
I hope we didn’t make a mistake, and I hope that after our first parent teacher conference we have some grounds to setting up a real communication plan, if not, we are going to have to find another teacher or get him out of this school.

Eli started his new school this week and I am not sure how to feel about it. One thing I have grown accustomed to is the fantastic flow of information regarding Eli’s day, and his progress. In his new half day program I am not getting these updates, so I am not sure what really is going on unless Eli is willing to communicate his day to me.
One of the biggest differences is the drop off procedure. At his old school I was welcome in his classroom and drop off included me bringing him into the room, getting him established and saying goodbye. Now, I bring him to the lobby of the new school and the teacher meets her class there. I no longer get to see the classroom on a daily basis. Because it is hectic, I am not afforded the opportunity to do a Q&A session with his teachers. I rely on a notebook where I can ask questions and hopefully get answers. Not very efficient. Also because the program he is in offers therapy such as speech and OT I have never received an update on what they are doing with him.
I need to start writing in the book. Notes to the Speech teacher, OT, and his regular teachers. I need to find out if he is being social with his new classmates and if he is adjusting well to the new routine. I have to re-invent my way of communicating and I am not looking forward to it.
